This month’s new releases are all about raw emotion and messy transformations. No one said becoming your better self was going to be clean and easy—and these artists drive home that point. Check out these new mixes to see if you can find the musical motivation you’ve been searching for:
It’s no surprise that this song is all about Taylor Swift—but that doesn’t mean the message can’t apply to everyone. The music video for “ME!” begins with footage of a snake slithering across a Technicolor brick road. As the snake hisses and strikes at the camera, its body explodes into hundreds of butterflies, serving as a metaphor for Swift’s metamorphosis from her previous serpentine motif into a more earnest bubblegum pop phase. The song may be a sugary overload for some, but sometimes your workout could benefit from a sugar rush. Our remix of the hit song brings the energy even higher and delivers the song’s takeaway of being your best self.
The Song of Ice and Fire may have come to a fiery finale, but the game never ends. This collaboration by American singer SZA, Canadian singer The Weeknd, and American rapper Travis Scott was created as part of the latest Game of Thrones-inspired music album, For the Throne. The song’s title comes from a line spat out by everyone’s favorite villain, Cersei Lannister, but the lyrics seem to foreshadow (if not flat-out spoil) the destiny of former bastard Jon Snow. Our remix transforms the original into a bouncy, electronic track, ideal for kickboxing, cycling, and boot camp.
This refreshing pop country track is the perfect hype song for a night on the town or an early morning at the gym. The crisp, twangy vocals paired with generous harmonica and horn sections make it impossible not to get up and move when you hear this song. Our disco house remix takes the energy way up to 128 BPM and adds in plenty of musical buildups and breakdowns. This song is good (mostly clean) fun, suitable for all ages.
Cari Fletcher, who goes by Fletcher, is a refreshing blast of originality in our clichéd times. “Undrunk” is another song about getting over a breakup, but she manages to tell the story in a new and biting way.
As she told Billboard in March, “I think people are craving sincerity now more than ever. … I want to be the artist that I needed when I was a little girl—the artist who tells real-life stories about the female experience and what it means to be a woman in 2019 and go through a heartbreak.”
Our remix adds an uplifting beat to the original and plenty of electronic grooves to help you step, cycle, or swim over the pain of a breakup.
“SOS” is the first single off Swedish DJ Avicii’s posthumous album TIM, released in memory of Tim Bergling (aka Avicii), who died of suicide last year at the age of 28 while nearing completion of this record. The song’s lyrics, performed by American singer Aloe Blacc, speak of addiction, love, and depression—a lyrical cry for help that mirrors the real-life tragedy. Our house remix adds uplifting notes and inspiration, ideal for step, cycling, and kickboxing.
